What do you do outside of officiating?
Loan Officer at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
When and why did you start officiating?
In my late 20’s as a way to keep me in the game and for additional exercise and to earn a few extra bucks.
What is your greatest memory or proudest moment as an official?
I guess being selected to do High School Playoffs the past few years.
Do you have any superstitious pre-game rituals?
Always have a Monster Energy Drink.
What are your long-term goals with officiating?
To be an assignor and to get involved in the USA Hockey Instructor Program.
Why do you think others should try officiating?
If he or she has an Ice Hockey background ( or not ) try it!! It is of course not for everyone.
What advice would you give to a new official entering their first season?
Just learn as much as you can, take games…practice….have a strong presence out there…speak with conviction with the players and coaches…know the rules…..perception can be everything so make certain you look the part, clean uniform that fits properly, nice bright white laces etc. Work on your judgement as you progress to doing higher level games.
List some general pro tips or words of wisdom that may help other officials improve their game.
Skate hard, strive to be in position at all times, and remember when a dispute occurs with a player or a coach….you can’t quote silence….be careful what you say. Hustle/Hustle/Hustle!!!
